Episode 7 - Being Young and Muslim in Guyana
Welcome to the Working Millennial Women podcast. I am your host, Nikita. I realized that most of you guys are probably not familiar with Guyana - the small South American country where I was born and spent the first 16 years of my life. Then I realized, I had never been Muslim while living there and I don’t really understand what it means to be a Guyanese Muslim. So, I called on my cousin-in-law, Farah, to share what it’s like to be Young and Muslim in Guyana. She also shares some of the challenges of being married to a revert. She offers advice to women who are considering marriage to a reverted brother or a non-muslim man. Join us as we give you a small glimpse into the cultures of Guyana.
Thanks for listening to the seventh episode of the Modern Muslimah series. I hope you learned some interesting facts about my home country. When some people hear Guyana, the first thing that comes to mind is the Jim Jones massacre. I promise you, Guyana is so much more than that! Here's a link to help you learn some more about this beautiful country and all it’s natural glory. https://guyanatourism.com/
Farah and I tackle some religious issues in this episode. Remember, neither of us are Islamic scholars. We’re just trying to help each other through difficult decisions in life. So please don’t take our opinions as religious advice. If you have anything to add to this conversation, please send me an email with your thoughts and questions.
I have also linked the charities Farah mentioned.
